Information of the American Cocker Spaniels
The American Cocker Spaniel is a breed of sporting dog. It is a spaniel type dog that is closely related to the English Cocker Spaniel; the two breeds diverged during the 20th century due to differing breed standards in the US and the UK.
In the United States, the breed is usually called a Cocker Spaniel, while elsewhere in the world, it is called an American Cocker Spaniel to distinguish it from its older English cousin.
The word cocker is commonly held to stem from their use to hunt woodcock in England, while spaniel is thought to be derived from the breed’s origins in Spain.
Potty Training
Potty training is usually very easy as long as you watch for signs, take your puppy outside regularly, and reward them with praise and healthy treats such as fruits and vegetables.
Breed Recognition
The American Cocker was the most popular breed in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s and again during the 1980s, reigning for a total of 18 years.
They have also won the best in show title at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on four occasions, the best in show title at Crufts in 2017, and have been linked to the President of the United States on several occasions, with owners including Richard Nixon and Harry S. Truman.
In 2013, the cocker spaniel ranked 29th the American Kennel Club registration statistics of historical comparisons and notable trends.
History of the American Cocker Spaniel
The first spaniel in America came across with the Mayflower in 1620, but it was not until 1878 that the first Cocker Spaniel was registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC).
A national breed club was set up three years later and the dog considered to be the father of the modern breed, Ch. Obo II, was born around this time.
By the 1920s the English and American varieties of Cocker had become noticeably different and in 1946 the AKC recognized the English type as a separate breed.
It was not until 1970 that The Kennel Club in the UK recognized the American Cocker Spaniel as being separate from the English type.

Appearance and Breed Traits
The breed is the smallest of the sporting dogs recognized by the AKC, and its distinctly shaped head makes it immediately recognizable.
In addition, there are some marked differences between it and its English relative.
It is a happy breed with average working intelligence, although by being bred to a show standard it is no longer an ideal working dog.
Members of the breed suffer from a wide variety of health ailments including problems with their hearts, eyes and ears.

Our babies are just that our babies and even when their babies go to their forever homes, they are still our babies.
We want the best families for them so they can be loved and well taken care of which is why we ask that an application form be filled in so we can learn a little more about our prospective families.
We do not ask for a deposit for any of our babies as we do not want to jinx you or us and stopping you if you want to go elsewhere for a baby.
We know many breeders do ask for a deposit when you fill in an application or whatever that particular breeder asks of you; we feel you are then tied until it’s your turn on the waiting list or lose your deposit which we would hate for anyone to do.

Early, positive reinforcement methods work best. They typically house-train quickly but may need more frequent potty breaks due to their smaller bladder size.

Hunting instinct
Some Cocker inherit the Cocker’s strong prey drive and may chase squirrels, rabbits, or birds. A secure leash or fenced yard is recommended.

- Receive Puppy Updates – Once a litter arrives, we send photos and details including color, sex, and weight to families on our waiting list.
- Choose Your Puppy – Take your time to select the puppy that is the perfect fit for your family.
- Reserve Your Puppy – The first family to contact us after receiving the litter announcement can reserve their chosen puppy and arrange the deposit.
This follows exactly what your client explained: no deposits before birth, photos are shared after the litter arrives, and reservations are made on a first-to-call basis.
We work with two trusted road transport companies that specialize in safely transporting puppies. Your puppy will receive a final veterinary examination before travel to ensure they are healthy and ready for the journey.
If you are unable to pick up your puppy, we will arrange transportation on your behalf or meet you at a nearby airport if needed. We do not ship puppies by air, as we believe road transportation provides a safer and less stressful experience for our babies.
Our purebred Cavalier King Charles and American Cocker Spaniel puppies come with AKC registration paperwork. Cockaliers are crossbreeds and are not AKC registered.
Each puppy goes home with a starter kit, vet records, vaccination history, deworming records, a blanket with the litter’s scent, and lifetime breeder support.
Our puppies are 100% healthy when they leave for their forever homes. Before going home, each puppy:
- Receives a complete veterinary health examination.
- Gets their first age-appropriate vaccinations.
- Is dewormed every two weeks from birth until they go home.
- Is carefully monitored to ensure they are healthy, happy, and ready to join their new family.
Rather than offering a traditional health guarantee, we focus on providing the highest level of care, health checks, and honesty to ensure every puppy gets the best possible start in life.
